US President Donald Trump reacted with enthusiasm after Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi declared today that the Strait of Hormuz is completely open to all commercial vessels for the remainder of the ceasefire.

“Iran just announced that the strait is completely open and ready for full passage. Thank you!”, the president wrote in his post, putting an end to weeks of tension, mutual threats, and a failed round of negotiations in Islamabad.

The announcement shakes global markets: roughly 20% of the world’s oil passes through this corridor, and its reopening could ease the pressure on energy prices that had surged during the conflict.

The diplomatic turn comes after chaotic weeks: US blockades on Iranian ports, sea mines in the strait, ships trapped waiting to cross, and a world economy that was beginning to feel the weight of the energy crisis.
