199 Days in the Hospital: The Baby Who Refused to Let Go

Kohen’s story began with uncertainty long before he ever left the hospital. He was born with serious medical complications, including missing parts of his brain, placing him in an extremely fragile condition from the very start of life.

Kohen underwent seven emergency surgeries in an attempt to save what remained of his intestines. By the end of these procedures, nearly 85% of his intestine had been removed, leaving him dependent on intensive medical support to survive.

Breathing on his own was not possible. A tracheostomy was placed to assist his airway. Tubes, IV lines, and monitoring equipment became permanent parts of his small body’s daily reality. His survival depended entirely on technology and the constant care of medical teams.

For Kohen, there was no normal newborn experience — no home, no nursery, no quiet nights surrounded by family at home. Instead, his life unfolded within hospital walls, where beeping monitors replaced lullabies and medical routines replaced bedtime stories.

His parents lived every hour in uncertainty. Each day was measured not in milestones, but in stability — in whether their son would make it through the next procedure, the next night, the next moment.

Over time, something remarkable emerged within this difficult journey: resilience. Kohen continued to respond to care, to show signs of strength even in the most fragile circumstances.
