In a classic battle of the wild, a monitor lizard found itself in serious trouble when a large rock python struck and began wrapping its powerful coils around it.

The lizard was simply going about its day when the python launched its ambush. Once those muscular coils start tightening, escape becomes extremely difficult. The python relies on constriction — using its body to squeeze the life out of its prey while also preventing it from breathing.

Despite being smaller, the monitor lizard is a tough and feisty opponent. With sharp claws, strong limbs, and powerful jaws, it was visibly fighting back, twisting and thrashing in an attempt to break free. Monitor lizards are known for their resilience and will often put up a fierce struggle even against much larger snakes.

This kind of encounter is surprisingly common in parts of Africa and Asia where both species overlap. While pythons frequently prey on monitor lizards, the lizards are not easy meals — they’re strong, agile, and have tough, armored skin covered in small scales.

The outcome of this particular standoff is a tense waiting game: the python trying to subdue its prey with patience and power, while the monitor lizard fights desperately for its life.
