Crocodiles Patiently Wait for Lions to Finish Feeding on a Buffalo Kill

This is classic African wilderness drama.
A pride of lions had just brought down a buffalo on a riverbed when a group of crocodiles emerged from the water. Instead of challenging the lions directly, the crocs did what they do best — they waited.![]()
Lying completely still on the bank, the crocodiles watched calmly as the lions fed. Only after the lionesses walked away to drink did the crocodiles finally move in, taking over the carcass with powerful jaws and dragging it closer to the water.
This behavior is common in areas where lions and crocodiles share territory. Crocodiles are highly opportunistic and have incredible patience. They often let the stronger lions do the dangerous work of killing large prey, then move in to scavenge what’s left.
While lions are the kings of the savanna, crocodiles rule the waterways — and when these two apex predators cross paths, the result is often a tense, calculated standoff.
Nature’s ultimate opportunists showing exactly how the food chain works in real time.
Raw. Patient. Relentless.
This is why the African bush never disappoints.
