Scott Peterson Sentenced to Life Without Parole in the Murder of Laci Peterson

On December 8, 2021, Scott Peterson was formally sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the 2002 murders of his pregnant wife Laci Peterson and their unborn son Connor.

Peterson was convicted in 2004 of first-degree murder in Laci’s death and second-degree murder in the death of their son. Laci, who was eight months pregnant, disappeared from their Modesto, California home on Christmas Eve 2002. Her body and that of her unborn son were later discovered in San Francisco Bay.

The case drew intense national attention at the time. Key evidence included Peterson’s affair with Amber Frey, his purchase of a boat shortly before the disappearance, and other circumstantial details presented during the trial.

Peterson’s original death sentence was later overturned on technical grounds, leading to the life without parole sentence. He is currently serving his sentence at Mule Creek State Prison in California and has continued to maintain his innocence.
The tragic case remains one of the most well-known true crime stories in American history.
