Florida Father Ryan Charles Whiten Kills Estranged Wife, Two Daughters in Doral Murder-Suicide, Officials Confirm

DORAL, Fla. — A 42-year-old man fatally stabbed his estranged ex-wife, a prominent South Florida real estate agent, and their two young daughters before turning the knife on himself in an apparent murder-suicide inside a gated Doral home earlier this week, authorities said Thursday.

Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office detectives identified the victims as Melanie Hyer, 46, a well-known probate and luxury real estate professional; her daughters Savannah Whiten, 11, and Sienna Whiten, 8; and the girls’ father, Ryan Charles Whiten, 42. All four were found dead with stab wounds Tuesday night during a welfare check at Hyer’s residence in the Doral Isles neighborhood.

“The investigation revealed that Mr. Whiten committed these heinous acts and then took his own life,” sheriff’s officials stated. No other suspects are being sought.

Hyer had been active in South Florida’s real estate market for over 20 years, specializing in probate, estate sales, guardianship cases, and luxury waterfront properties. She was frequently interviewed by local media for her expertise.

The couple’s relationship had reportedly been toxic and strained for years, with the pair estranged at the time of the killings. The children were with their mother in the home when the tragedy occurred.

Neighbors and friends expressed shock at the violence in the upscale gated community. The case remains under investigation, but authorities have ruled out any ongoing threat to the public.

This incident marks another tragic chapter in domestic violence cases involving estranged partners and children. Local advocates are using the moment to highlight resources for those in abusive situations.

Our thoughts are with the extended family and friends of the victims during this devastating time.
