Latest Update: More Suspects Charged & Arrested in Waialee Beach Assault – Oahu’s North Shore
Authorities on Oahu’s North Shore have confirmed significant progress in the ongoing investigation into a violent assault that occurred at Waialee Beach, also known locally as “Dead Man’s Curve,” on the night of Saturday, May 30. The case, which shocked the community due to its severity and the ages of those involved, continues to unfold as additional suspects are identified and taken into custody.
According to police reports, the incident began when a group attacked a 15-year-old boy at the beach. The situation escalated rapidly, drawing the attention of nearby witnesses and prompting immediate intervention. Among those who stepped in was 23-year-old lifeguard Kekoa Tamale, who attempted to protect the teen and de-escalate the confrontation. In doing so, he became a victim himself and was severely beaten by members of the group.
Both the teenager and Tamale sustained serious injuries during the assault. Medical evaluations confirmed that their injuries included broken bones and concussions. Following emergency treatment, both victims were hospitalized. Officials have since confirmed that they have been discharged and are now recovering at home under continued medical supervision. Community members have expressed widespread support for Kekoa Tamale, praising his actions as an act of courage and selflessness in a dangerous and rapidly unfolding situation.
Honolulu Police Department has announced multiple charges in connection with the case. Five juveniles have been formally charged with Attempted Assault in the First Degree. In addition, two 17-year-old suspects are facing more severe charges, including Kidnapping and Attempted Assault in the Second Degree. These charges reflect the seriousness of the alleged actions and the extent of harm inflicted during the incident.
In recent developments, law enforcement officials confirmed that additional suspects have come forward and turned themselves in. Among them is a 19-year-old male, bringing the total number of individuals now involved in the case to seven. Investigators credit the rapid progress to community cooperation, including the submission of witness statements, photographs, and video footage that have helped identify those allegedly involved.
Police have stated that the investigation remains active and ongoing. Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of further arrests as they continue to analyze evidence and gather additional information. Detectives are urging anyone who may have been present at the scene or who possesses relevant footage or details to come forward.
