Texas Woman Accused of Shooting Ex-Husband 18 Times After Luring Him with Fake Pizza Delivery

DALLAS, Texas — A 31-year-old Texas woman is facing serious charges after allegedly ambushing and shooting her ex-husband 18 times in a calculated attack at his Dallas home, using a fake pizza delivery to lure him to the door.

According to Dallas police, Marquita Marie Rice waited outside her ex-husband’s residence on March 1. Security footage reportedly captured Rice, dressed in black, hiding near the garage as a legitimate pizza delivery driver approached the front door.

When the victim opened the door, Rice allegedly opened fire. Police say she shot several times, fled the scene, then returned to fire even more rounds before driving away. The man had not ordered any pizza, leading investigators to believe the delivery was a deliberate setup for the premeditated ambush.

Despite being struck 18 times, the victim survived. He was rushed to a hospital in critical condition but was stabilized by medical staff.

Detectives were able to track Rice through distinctive taillights on her Chevy Trax, which were captured on surveillance cameras as she fled the area. Detective Michael Bui noted that the unique taillights “made a big difference” in identifying and locating the suspect.

Rice was arrested on May 26 in Wake Forest, North Carolina — more than 1,000 miles from Dallas — by local officers and the U.S. Marshals Service. She is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon involving family violence and is being held on a $1 million bond.

Court records indicate Rice refused extradition during a May 27 hearing and is scheduled to appear in court again on June 25 as she fights being returned to Texas.

The case remains under active investigation.
