Hollywood Scion Redmond O’Neal Uttered Bizarre Threat Before LA Knife Rampage, Witness Says

Los Angeles — Troubled Hollywood scion Redmond O’Neal, son of the late stars Ryan O’Neal and Farrah Fawcett, made a chilling threat during his alleged 2018 knife rampage in Los Angeles, a barista testified Thursday in his ongoing attempted murder trial.

O’Neal, 41, entered a Venice coffee shop in May 2018 and asked for a free coffee sample, according to barista Samantha Cline. When she informed him the shop did not offer free samples, O’Neal locked eyes with her and said, “Stop staring at me.” He then allegedly pulled a knife from his pocket and advanced toward Cline and a coworker before turning around, knocking over items, and leaving the shop.

The encounter was the final incident in a violent three-day spree across Los Angeles that left multiple victims beaten or stabbed in seemingly random attacks.

Long history of mental health struggles

O’Neal faces charges including attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, making criminal threats, and battery. A mental health evaluation reportedly revealed diagnoses of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and antisocial personality disorder.

He appeared in court with prominent devil horn tattoos on his forehead and other visible ink. O’Neal remains incarcerated at Patton State Hospital in San Bernardino County.

The case, which dates back to 2018, has faced delays due to questions about O’Neal’s competency to assist in his own defense. He has a well-documented history of drug addiction and mental health challenges spanning years.

O’Neal is the only son of Hollywood legends Ryan O’Neal and Farrah Fawcett. The trial continues as witnesses recount the frightening details of the rampage that terrorized parts of Los Angeles nearly a decade ago.
