BATON ROUGE, Louisiana — A mother is one step closer to justice after the man accused in the 2022 assault on her young son has been charged with first-degree murder following the child’s death.

Ty’Shawn Brumfield was just a toddler when he suffered devastating injuries in the attack. He spent years unable to walk, speak, or see, but his mother remembers him as a happy little boy before the tragedy.

The suspect previously admitted responsibility for the assault. Now, after Ty’Shawn’s passing, prosecutors have upgraded the charges.

The mother’s emotional statement reflects years of pain and advocacy:

“I want him in prison for the rest of his life.”
