Two Sisters and Friend Charged with Murder in Broad-Daylight Stabbing of Del Rio Mother of Five

Del Rio, Texas — A 32-year-old mother of five was stabbed to death in broad daylight on a busy street in Del Rio, Texas, on Thursday, leading to murder charges against two sisters and their friend, authorities said.
Caroline “Caro” Peña was attacked around 2 p.m. near a Sonic drive-thru on one of the city’s busiest roads. She suffered multiple stab wounds and was rushed to Val Verde Regional Medical Center before being airlifted to a hospital in San Antonio, where she died later that evening.
Del Rio Police Department identified the suspects as sisters Kitty Mia Diaz, 21, and Amaya “Cookie” Diaz, 19, along with their 21-year-old friend Kyandra Renee Faz. All three have been charged with murder and are being held at the GEO Correctional Facility. Additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.

Friends and family remembered Peña as a devoted mother, loyal friend, and someone who was always there for others. A childhood friend noted the shocking nature of the attack: “This wasn’t something that happened in a back alley. This happened at the corner near Sonic on one of our busiest roads in broad daylight.”
Peña was a twin and left behind five children, with her oldest son nearing high school graduation. Community members have expressed heartbreak over the loss, emphasizing her role as a “great mom” who showed up for her kids and loved ones.
A motive for the stabbing has not yet been publicly disclosed by police. Investigators used surveillance footage, physical evidence, and witness statements to identify and arrest the suspects within hours of the attack.
The case has sent shockwaves through the border community of Del Rio, with many calling for justice for Peña’s children.
