Mom Gives Birth in Her Sleep; Newborn Found Under Pile of Blankets Minutes Later

ALBERTA, Canada — Carolina Moreno, a 27-year-old mother of three, experienced a remarkable and startling birth when she delivered her baby boy while asleep in the hospital. Nurses discovered the newborn lying face down under a pile of blankets several minutes later.
In April 2026, Moreno arrived at the hospital at 40 weeks pregnant to deliver her third child. After hours of labor and receiving an epidural (with multiple doses), she fell asleep around 4 a.m., believing she was still in early stages. Medical staff were monitoring her closely.
When a nurse later asked Moreno to shift positions and lifted the sheets, she made the shocking discovery: the baby had been born silently and was lying between his mother’s legs, partially covered by blankets. The infant had not cried, and it is believed he remained there for approximately six to seven minutes before being found.
Thankfully, both mother and baby were declared healthy. Moreno later described the experience as “really shocking” and traumatic in hindsight, though she is grateful for the positive outcome.
The story has drawn widespread attention, highlighting the powerful effects of epidurals and the importance of vigilant monitoring during labor. Moreno and her family are now focused on enjoying their new addition in good health.
