Ontario, California — A 21-year-old truck driver who entered the U.S. illegally has received a sentence of 4 years and 8 months in prison for a horrific multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 that claimed three lives.

Jashanpreet Singh, living in Yuba City at the time, was driving a semi-truck when he caused an eight-vehicle pileup in October 2025. Authorities said he was under the influence of drugs, leading to the fatal chain-reaction collision. Singh pleaded guilty to three counts of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence.

The crash left four others injured. The sentence has drawn criticism for its perceived leniency given the loss of life. Singh is an Indian national, and federal officials confirmed his illegal entry into the country.
