Tragic Murder of Young Mother Briana Winston: Boyfriend and Family Members Charged in Cover-Up After She Discovered His Secret Marriage

Clayton County, Georgia — Briana Winston, a 23-year-old mother of a 4-year-old child, was reported missing in early April 2024. What began as a missing persons case quickly turned into a homicide investigation after authorities discovered her apartment had been thoroughly cleaned with bleach, as if someone had attempted to erase all traces of her existence.
Winston, who worked two jobs to support her young child, had recently confronted her boyfriend, Michale Edwards — the father of her child — after learning he was secretly married to another woman. Police say this confrontation preceded her disappearance and alleged murder.

Arrests and Alleged Family Involvement
Michale Edwards, 23, was arrested and charged with malice murder and aggravated stalking. According to investigators, Edwards allegedly strangled Winston following an argument about his infidelity and secret marriage. He then allegedly enlisted family members to help dispose of her body.
Edwards’ wife, Brienna Phillips-Edwards, faces charges for allegedly providing a vehicle used in the disposal and making false statements to police. Edwards’ mother, Ebony Anderson, and his brother, Keilan Wright, are accused of assisting in the cover-up, including burning items linked to the crime.
Briana Winston’s burned remains were later discovered in a cemetery and along a highway in Tennessee, confirming the grim outcome of the case.
A Heartbreaking Loss
Family and friends described Winston as a dedicated young mother doing everything she could to provide for her child. Her disappearance left her 4-year-old waiting for a mother who would never return. The case has drawn widespread attention for the alleged involvement of multiple family members in the alleged cover-up.
All defendants have been charged in connection with the case and are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The investigation remains active as prosecutors build their case.
This heartbreaking story highlights the devastating impact of domestic violence and the lengths some will go to conceal crimes, leaving a young child without their mother.
