Ohio Woman Mackenzie Shirilla Convicted of Murder in High-Speed Crash That Killed Boyfriend and Friend

Mackenzie Shirilla, now 21, was convicted of murder for intentionally crashing her car at nearly 100 mph into a brick wall in Strongsville, Ohio, on July 31, 2022, killing her boyfriend Dominic Russo, 20, and their friend Davion Flanagan, 19. She was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison.

Prosecutors argued the crash was deliberate, citing evidence that Shirilla had her foot fully on the accelerator with no braking, had scouted the route beforehand, and made disturbing statements prior to the incident. Shirilla has maintained it was a tragic accident, claiming she blacked out.
The case drew renewed attention following the Netflix documentary The Crash, in which Shirilla spoke publicly for the first time from prison, expressing remorse while insisting there was no intent to harm anyone.
The victims’ families have expressed ongoing grief, describing the loss of two young men with bright futures. Shirilla’s appeals have been denied, and she remains incarcerated.
