Brazos County, Texas — A promising young professional boxer, Hannah Rapp, 26, was killed Saturday morning after being struck by a vehicle in what authorities describe as an apparent road rage incident. The driver, 31-year-old Charles Medina, was arrested and charged with manslaughter.

Deputies with the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office responded around 10 a.m. on July 19, 2026, to the 23000 block of FM 159 near Navasota. Rapp was found in the roadway and transported to a hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Investigators determined that Rapp and another cyclist were riding when Medina’s vehicle passed them. He then stopped, shifted into reverse, and struck Rapp, according to the sheriff’s office. Medina was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Brazos County Detention Center. The incident is believed to be isolated, with no further details on motive released.

A Rising Talent in the Ring

Rapp, originally from Indiana, moved to Texas in 2024. She transitioned to boxing after a track career at Purdue University and quickly rose through the ranks, compiling an 8-0-1 professional record. In June 2026, she challenged for the WBC women’s featherweight title against Tiara Brown.

Outside the ring, Rapp worked as a fire and life safety inspector at Texas A&M University, balancing her athletic ambitions with her career. Tributes poured in from the boxing community, with the WBC and WBA honoring her as a dedicated athlete and valued member of the sport.
