Kennewick, Washington — A multi-agency effort has successfully located 4-year-old Grace Susmilch, who was the subject of an Amber Alert after being taken by her father, Matthew Susmilch. The child is safe and uninjured, now with family members.

The incident began Saturday around 11 a.m. when police responded to a report of an assault in the 100 block of South Conway Place. Officers believed Grace was inside an apartment with her father, who was reportedly armed. Tri-City Regional SWAT responded, and negotiators attempted to communicate with Susmilch. He ultimately fled the scene with Grace around 3:30 p.m.

Following further investigation revealing threats to harm the child, an Amber Alert was issued at approximately 5:38 p.m. and broadcast by the Washington State Patrol around 6:30 p.m. Detectives collaborated with numerous agencies—including Richland PD, West Richland PD, Pasco PD, Benton County Sheriff’s Office, Washington Department of Corrections, U.S. Marshals, and the FBI—to locate Grace before 2 a.m. Sunday in Pasco.

Suspect Still at Large

Matthew Susmilch, 41, remains at large and is wanted for first-degree kidnapping, second-degree assault, and threats to kill. He is considered armed and dangerous. Authorities urge anyone who sees him to call 911 immediately and not approach.
