Nolan Wells’ Parents Speak Publicly, Say They Have Serious Questions About Their Son’s Final Hours

The parents of 18-year-old Nolan Xavier Wells have spoken publicly about their son’s death, saying they do not believe the explanation they have been given about what happened during a Fourth of July trip to Horn Island.

In an emotional interview alongside civil rights attorney Ben Crump, Nolan’s mother, Christine Wells, and father, Elmore Wanssley, said they are seeking a full and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding their son’s death.

According to the family, they find it difficult to believe that Nolan voluntarily remained on the island after the boat departed. Elmore Wanssley questioned that account, saying he believes those present should have ensured Nolan was safely back on the boat before leaving.

The family also raised concerns about Nolan’s cellphone. They allege that messages had been deleted before the phone was returned to them and pointed to video that they say shows an earlier disagreement involving the device. Those claims have drawn additional public attention, but investigators have not publicly confirmed the family’s allegations or explained the condition of the phone.

Nolan, a recent Pascagoula High School graduate and college football player, was reported missing after the boating trip. His body was later recovered in waters near Horn Island. Since then, several aspects of the investigation have remained unresolved.

The family’s independent autopsy concluded that the cause of death is undetermined, with the independent medical examiner stating that a definitive conclusion could not be reached because not all of the organs and skeletal structures necessary for a complete examination were available.

Authorities have not announced a final determination regarding how Nolan died, and the investigation remains ongoing. Nolan’s family continues to call for answers, saying their goal is to understand exactly what happened during his final hours and to ensure that every aspect of the case is thoroughly investigated.
