More than half a century after Bruce Lee changed martial-arts cinema forever, his name remains inseparable from another global action icon: Jackie Chan. Their careers took very different paths, yet the connection between the two men began long before Chan became an international superstar.

Jackie Chan was still a young stunt performer when he worked on Bruce Lee films including Fist of Fury in 1972 and Enter the Dragon in 1973. Chan later recalled how deeply Lee influenced him, while also realizing that simply copying Bruce Lee would never allow him to build his own identity.

That decision helped shape one of cinema’s most distinctive careers. Instead of adopting Lee’s intense screen persona, Chan developed a combination of martial arts, elaborate stunt choreography, physical comedy and vulnerability. Decades later, he remains professionally active.

In 2026, Chan continues to work on major productions. His stunt team has been involved with Spider-Man: Brand New Day, bringing its practical-action experience to the Marvel production. He is also attached to Armour of God IV: Ultimatum, which has been preparing production in Kazakhstan and is targeting a 2027 release.

Even as his appearance has naturally changed with age, Chan’s presence remains instantly recognizable. The youthful stunt performer who once worked in Bruce Lee’s shadow has become an elder statesman of action cinema, with generations of performers citing his physical storytelling and stunt philosophy as inspiration.

Bruce Lee’s story is very different. Lee died on July 20, 1973, at only 32 years old, shortly before Enter the Dragon became an international phenomenon. His influence, however, has continued to expand.

In a major recognition of that legacy, California officially designated May 17 as Bruce Lee Day in 2026, making him the first Chinese American honored with an annual namesake day on the state’s calendar. The Bruce Lee Foundation also continues educational programs, youth initiatives, exhibitions and projects built around Lee’s philosophy and cultural impact.

Could Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee ever “reunite”?

A conventional new movie starring both men is, of course, impossible. There is currently no verified announcement of a new Jackie Chan–Bruce Lee joint film.

But cinema now offers other possibilities.

An authorized documentary could place Chan’s memories alongside restored archival footage of Lee. A carefully produced tribute could revisit the period when the young Chan worked on Lee’s films. Modern visual technology could even create an artistic representation of the two icons sharing the screen — although any such project would require careful handling of Lee’s likeness, legacy and the wishes of those controlling his estate.

Perhaps that is what makes the idea so fascinating.
