He stood on his hospital bed with wires attached to his tiny body… then smiled as if to tell everyone, “I’m still here.”

This little boy has already spent more time around hospital rooms, monitors, and doctors than any child should have to. Bandages cover his chest. Wires track his every heartbeat. Medical equipment surrounds his bed.

But look closely at his face. He’s smiling.

That morning, after another long night in the hospital, he decided he’d had enough of lying down. He pulled a shirt over his head like a giant hat, stood proudly on the bed, and gave his family a grin they desperately needed to see.

For a few precious seconds, the hospital room didn’t feel quite so frightening. He was simply a little boy being silly.

His mom laughed through tears.

Because sometimes courage doesn’t roar. Sometimes courage is a child surrounded by machines who still finds a reason to play. Sometimes hope looks like a messy hospital bed, a shirt worn the wrong way, and the biggest little smile in the room.
