The past is coming back to haunt everyone.

After years of witches, ghosts, serial killers, demons and apocalyptic horrors, American Horror Story is preparing to unleash what may be its most ambitious season yet. FX has officially unveiled the first look at American Horror Story: 13, and the images are already sending longtime fans into a frenzy.

The biggest surprise is not simply who is returning — it is how many iconic characters appear to be coming back at once. Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett and Emma Roberts are among the familiar faces at the center of this extraordinary reunion. The first teaser, released August 13, makes it clear that Season 13 is being designed as a “greatest hits” celebration of the franchise.

For fans who have followed AHS since Murder House, Jessica Lange’s return may be the most emotional moment of all. Lange is set to revisit multiple characters from her previous appearances, including the unforgettable Constance Langdon. According to Ryan Murphy, she will reprise all four of her iconic AHS roles — a decision that transforms Season 13 into something much bigger than a conventional anthology chapter. Lange even reportedly made one condition for her return: she wanted a musical number.

Then there is Sarah Paulson, another defining figure in the AHS universe. Her return brings the possibility of seeing characters from different eras collide, while Evan Peters is expected to revisit approximately five of his previous roles. One of the most intriguing developments is that Peters reportedly filmed scenes involving multiple versions of himself, creating the kind of bizarre, reality-bending concept that has become synonymous with the series.

Emma Roberts and Angela Bassett are also returning, bringing back the powerful Coven mythology that has remained one of the most beloved parts of the franchise. The new season appears to be expanding beyond a simple Coven continuation, however. Instead, it is shaping up as a massive crossover that pulls characters and themes from across AHS history into one story.

And the returning heroes are not the only reason fans are watching closely.

Paul Anthony Kelly, who recently gained attention for playing John F. Kennedy Jr. in FX’s Love Story, has joined the cast in a pivotal role. His addition gives the season a fresh face amid an ensemble dominated by AHS veterans.

But perhaps the biggest mystery remains hidden behind the curtain: What exactly is the ultimate evil?

Ryan Murphy has teased an enemy powerful enough to stand above even the threats audiences have already seen in the AHS universe. That leaves fans wondering whether the new villain could be connected to the Antichrist, the witches, or something entirely unexpected.

Season 13 will reportedly consist of 13 half-hour episodes, making the number itself another eerie part of the season’s identity. FX and Hulu have scheduled the premiere for September 24, 2026.
