Prayers Sought for Texas Girl Lucero as She Fights Leukemia for the Third Time

A young girl from Laredo, Texas, is once again facing a harrowing battle with cancer, and her mother is asking the public for prayers.

Lucero was only 3 years old when she was diagnosed with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia in December 2022. She fought the disease and achieved remission. In September 2025, the leukemia returned. She underwent CAR-T cell therapy, but the family received devastating news again this summer.

On June 23, 2026, Lucero relapsed for a second time. She is now fighting the disease for the third time.

Photos shared by the family show the little girl in visible pain and sadness. In one image she appears distressed while wearing patterned pajamas; in another she looks toward the camera with a swollen, reddish eye; a close-up captures her face while she rests.

Her mother, Paola, reached out from Houston seeking prayer support for her daughter. The family has traveled from Laredo to Houston for specialized care. They recently had their first appointment at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Radiation treatment to Lucero’s eye is scheduled to begin Thursday.

On August 27, Lucero is expected to be admitted to Texas Children’s Hospital to begin intensive chemotherapy in preparation for a bone marrow transplant. Additional radiation is planned for August 30.

Through it all, Paola’s request has remained consistent: “Prayers please.”

Supporters are being asked to pray that the radiation and chemotherapy achieve the desired medical outcomes, that the bone marrow transplant is successful, and that Lucero receives strength during periods of pain or fear. Prayers are also requested for her mother as she watches her child endure this third fight.

Lucero has already faced cancer three times in her young life. The family hopes the collective prayers will help carry them through treatment and toward the day they can bring her home.

Sources Details based on information shared by Lucero’s mother, Paola, regarding the child’s diagnosis history (December 2022 initial diagnosis of B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia; September 2025 relapse treated with CAR-T; June 23, 2026 second relapse), upcoming treatments at MD Anderson Cancer Center and Texas Children’s Hospital, and the family’s public request for prayers.
