A startling new development has emerged in the Nancy Guthrie investigation: human remains were discovered in a desert area roughly 15 miles from her Tucson home.

Deputies responded to the scene as investigators began examining the remains. Authorities say they appear to have been at the location for an extended period of time.

Authorities have made a disturbing discovery in the Tucson area after human remains were reported in a desert location near West Ajo Way and South La Cholla Boulevard.

Search-and-rescue deputies were sent to the area while officials worked to determine the identity and circumstances surrounding the remains.
