The search for 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie has crossed the U.S.–Mexico border, with volunteer searchers continuing to investigate an anonymous tip about her possible whereabouts. Nancy, the mother of Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, disappeared from her Tucson home on January 31, 2026, and the case remains unresolved.

A Mexican volunteer group, Buscando Corazones Nogales, began searching remote areas near Nogales, Sonora, after receiving information claiming Nancy’s remains may have been buried somewhere in the region. Searchers have returned to the field multiple times, focusing on difficult-to-access areas identified through subsequent tips.

The searches have not, however, confirmed that Nancy is in Mexico. During one operation, volunteers reported locating more than 25 unmarked graves, but none were linked to Nancy. Mexican authorities have also said they had not found evidence establishing a connection between her disappearance and Sonora.

Meanwhile, investigators in Arizona continue to examine evidence surrounding Nancy’s disappearance. Authorities have released two alleged ransom notes, including one demanding $4 million in cryptocurrency and another claiming that Nancy had died after her abduction and had been buried “in nature.” The FBI has not publicly confirmed the authenticity of the messages.

Investigators have also released surveillance material showing a masked individual near Nancy’s home, and authorities believe information about that person could be important to the investigation. Despite extensive investigative activity, no one has been publicly charged with Nancy’s abduction.

For Nancy’s family, every credible lead matters. The volunteer searches in Mexico demonstrate how far people are willing to go for answers, but investigators still need independently verified evidence before determining whether the anonymous tip is connected to Nancy’s disappearance.

The Mexico search should therefore be viewed as an investigative lead, not confirmation that Nancy’s remains are there. The case remains active, and authorities continue urging anyone with credible information to come forward.
