‘She Was a Wonderful and Loving Mom’: South Texas Family Mourns Dulce After Domestic Violence Takes Her Life

A South Texas mother of two is gone, and the family who loved her says the warning signs had been there for years.

Coral reached out from Los Fresnos after the sudden death of her cousin Dulce — a woman she remembers for her huge smile, her cooking, her dancing, and, more than anything, the way she loved her two sons.

Dulce was a mother to a 16-year-old and a 20-year-old. Those boys are now trying to understand how she could be gone.

Authorities say Dulce was killed in an act of domestic violence. Her husband has been accused of taking her life. Coral says what happened did not come completely without warning. There were signs. There were struggles. And now, after everything the family feared, Dulce is gone.

That is the part Coral cannot quite accept.

“She was kind, always had the biggest smile, was an excellent cook and dancer, but above all a wonderful and loving mom.”

Those are the things her family wants people to remember — not only how Dulce died, but how she lived. How she made people laugh. How she danced. How she cooked. How fiercely she loved those two boys.

They have one last wish for her. They want to take Dulce to Mexico so she can be laid to rest beside her parents.

There is something especially painful in that request. Two sons who should still have years with their mother are now trying to figure out how to bring her home for the last time.

Coral reached out because this loss feels senseless, frightening, and almost impossible to accept. The family has asked for condolences and prayers for everyone who loved her.

Remember Dulce for the life she lived. Pray for her sons. Pray for a family that is now carrying both grief and the work of saying goodbye.
