A new round of scrutiny is bringing renewed attention to the case after previously overlooked photographs, family records and timeline details began circulating again — and several pieces of information are now being compared side by side.

The biggest question is whether the child’s condition in earlier photographs can help investigators better understand what was happening inside the home before the case became public.

Some of the images being shared show the child with visible injuries and medical treatment, while other photographs appear to document the family’s life during an earlier period.

By themselves, those photographs do not establish when or how an injury occurred.

But investigators examining a case involving a young child would normally want to compare photographs with medical records, witness statements and the dates on which each image was created.

Digital evidence could be especially important.

Original photographs can contain timestamps and other metadata that may help determine when they were taken. Phone records, messages, location information and social-media activity could also help establish who was with the child during particular periods.

That becomes important if accounts provided by adults around the child do not perfectly match the available digital timeline.
