Newly released court documents are providing a more detailed account of what prosecutors allege happened inside a Frankfort, Illinois, home on September 1, 2026.

Two-year-old Barrett Walsh, affectionately known as “Bear,” was found unresponsive in the basement of his family’s home. A neighbor discovered the child and began CPR before emergency responders arrived. Barrett was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to court documents, Barrett’s mother, 40-year-old Corie Walsh, was later found upstairs in a bathtub with self-inflicted injuries. She was taken to a hospital for treatment, and authorities say her injuries were not life-threatening.

The family’s other three children — including an 8-month-old baby — were found alive and physically unharmed.

Prosecutors allege that Walsh made statements to investigators about Barrett’s death and claimed that she believed her son was the “devil” and the “anti-Christ.” The criminal complaint states that Barrett died from asphyxia caused by ligature compression of the neck.

The court filings also contain another detail that has attracted significant attention.

According to prosecutors, witnesses told investigators that Walsh had recently become deeply interested in the murder trial of Lindsay Clancy in Massachusetts. Court documents state that Walsh was discussing the Clancy case with friends through a group text message as recently as approximately 12:30 p.m. on September 1 — several hours before Barrett was discovered.

Prosecutors have not alleged that Walsh’s interest in the Clancy case established a direct cause for Barrett’s death. The reference appears in the prosecution’s filing as part of the circumstances investigators were examining.

Walsh faces three counts of first-degree murder in connection with Barrett’s death. A Will County judge later ordered her to remain in custody while the case proceeds. Her attorneys have argued that she was experiencing a severe mental-health crisis at the time of the incident.

The case remains ongoing, and the allegations against Walsh have not been proven at trial.

Barrett was only two years old.

His family called him Bear.
