This one out of Edmond, Oklahoma is one of the more heartbreaking and puzzling stories I have come across today and details are still very limited because everyone involved is a juvenile.
On the afternoon of Wednesday, September 9th, 2026, Edmond Police were called to a home in the 1100 block of Lapwing Road after reports of a shooting. When officers arrived they found a 15-year-old boy dead inside the home with a gunshot wound to the head.
His 11-year-old sister was the only other person in the house.
According to radio traffic cited by ABC News, the children’s mother was not home when the shooting happened. Her daughter called her and told her that someone had shot her son. The mother then contacted police.

Shortly before 1 a.m. on Thursday, September 10th, the 11-year-old girl was arrested and transported to a juvenile detention facility where she was booked on a charge of second-degree murder. Edmond police also noted that additional arrests and charges are possible as the investigation continues.
Neighbors who spoke to local news were stunned. Richard New, who lives nearby, said his doorbell camera captured police cars lining up on the block. He and his wife described the family as friendly, saying this was the last house they would have ever expected something like this to happen.
The Edmond Police Department released a statement that said simply: “We recognize this is a heartbreaking situation for the family involved. Our thoughts are with them as they grieve this tragedy.”
No motive has been released. No names have been released because both individuals involved are minors. No additional details about what led to the shooting have been made public. The investigation is ongoing.
An 11-year-old girl. A 15-year-old boy. A mother who got a phone call no parent should ever receive. Whatever happened in that home on Wednesday afternoon, an entire family’s world has been shattered.
