CHRISTA PIKE WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL AFTER TENNESSEE’S ATTEMPT TO EXECUTE HER FAILED WEDNESDAY NIGHT.
We now have another major development in the Christa Pike case.
After Tennessee was unable to complete Pike’s execution by lethal injection, the 50-year-old death row inmate was reportedly transported from Riverbend Maximum Security Institution to a hospital for medical treatment.
According to the Associated Press, Pike became unresponsive during the execution attempt but remained alive. Her attorneys had been urgently asking the courts to intervene as the process unfolded, saying she was still breathing after the pentobarbital had been administered and needed immediate medical attention.
Pike is now reportedly receiving treatment after surviving the execution attempt.
At this point, we still do not know the full extent of her condition, what treatment doctors are providing or what lasting effects she may have suffered from the drugs.
This also creates an entirely new legal situation. Pike remains under a death sentence, but Tennessee was unable to carry it out Wednesday.
For now, the biggest question is no longer what happened inside the execution chamber.
It’s what happens to Christa Pike next.
