My Best Friend Took My Husband on Our Anniversary Trip—Then I Received a Call From the Hotel

PART 1 — THE HOTEL CALL THAT EXPOSED EVERYTHING

My husband told me he had an emergency business trip on our fifteenth wedding anniversary.

An hour later, my best friend canceled our lunch plans.

I should have known.

“Sorry, Emma,” she texted. “Something important came up.”

I spent the evening alone.

Then, at 9:47 p.m., my phone rang.

“Good evening, Mrs. Thompson. This is the Grand Atlantic Hotel.”

I frowned.

“I’m sorry, I think you have the wrong number.”

The receptionist hesitated.

“Your husband checked into our anniversary suite this afternoon, and your name is still listed as the primary contact.”

My heart started pounding.

“Is he alone?”

There was a pause.

“I’m afraid I can’t disclose guest details, ma’am.”

I almost hung up.

Then she continued.

“However, there appears to be a billing issue with a reservation made under your joint credit card.”

She carefully explained the transaction.

I opened my banking app.

There it was.

A luxury suite, champagne, and a couples’ spa package.

My husband’s supposed business trip.

Then I saw a social media photograph my best friend had posted that afternoon.

The hotel lobby was unmistakable.

I called the receptionist back.

“Ma’am, I’d like to confirm one thing. Is the reservation still being charged to my card?”

“Yes, Mrs. Thompson.”

I took a deep breath.

“Then I need to speak to your billing manager.”
