COMMUNITY MOURNS JADEN PIERRE AS MOTHER SHANELLE WESTON SPEAKS OUT
The streets of St. Albans, Queens, were filled with sorrow and solidarity as hundreds gathered to honor the life of 15-year-old Jaden Pierre, who was tragically killed in a shooting at Roy Wilkins Park.
Family, friends, and community members came together for an emotional vigil, sharing stories of Jaden’s bright personality, his love for basketball, and his dreams for the future. Candles, balloons, and photos of the smiling teenager created a heartfelt memorial at the site of the tragedy.

Shanelle Weston Speaks Out
In an emotional moment that moved many to tears, Jaden’s mother, Shanelle Weston, addressed the crowd:
“My baby was everything to me. He was kind, he was smart, and he had so much life ahead of him. This violence has to stop. No mother should ever have to bury her child.”
Shanelle’s words resonated deeply with the community, many of whom have lost loved ones to gun violence. She called for unity and action, urging young people to choose peace over conflict and asking leaders to address the root causes of violence in the area.

A Life Full of Promise
Those who knew Jaden described him as a respectful, ambitious young man who was always trying to make others smile. He was a talented athlete and a dedicated student who dreamed of playing college basketball.
His sudden loss has left a painful void in the lives of his family and friends. Many attendees at the vigil wore shirts with Jaden’s photo and the words “Gone Too Soon.”

Community Calls for Change
Local leaders and activists used the gathering to highlight the urgent need for solutions to gun violence. They called for more youth programs, better mental health resources, and stronger community-police relations.

One community organizer stated, “We are tired of mourning. We need real change so that no more families have to go through this pain.”
The New York Police Department continues to investigate the shooting. As of now, no arrests have been made, and authorities are asking anyone with information to come forward.

As the candles flickered and balloons were released into the sky, the community of Queens stood together — grieving, remembering, and demanding justice for Jaden Pierre.
