Passengers Scream in Terror as Cathay Pacific Flight Plunges in Severe Turbulence

A Cathay Pacific flight from Brisbane to Hong Kong turned into a nightmare when the aircraft suddenly dropped violently mid-air, injuring 10 people and causing panic among passengers.

The incident occurred on flight CX156 on May 24, 2026, approximately two hours before landing. According to reports, the turbulence struck right as cabin crew were serving meals in the economy class. Many passengers described the terrifying sensation of the plane “falling freely” for a few seconds.

Screams filled the cabin as food carts were thrown around, trays and luggage flew through the air, and people were hurled from their seats. Images shared after the incident showed a chaotic scene inside the aircraft with debris scattered across the floor.

10 people were injured — 6 cabin crew members and 4 passengers (including 2 Australians). Eight of them were hospitalized for further treatment. One flight attendant was seen being carried off on a stretcher with a neck brace.

The aircraft eventually landed safely at Hong Kong International Airport, where medical teams and ambulances were already waiting on the ground.

Experts believe the plane encountered clear-air turbulence — a particularly dangerous type that is difficult to detect on radar and often occurs without warning.

Cathay Pacific confirmed the incident and stated that all passengers and crew received immediate medical attention upon arrival.

This frightening event serves as a stark reminder of how unpredictable air travel can be, even on routine flights. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported, and the aircraft landed without further issues.

Our thoughts go out to everyone affected by this terrifying ordeal.

Safety first — always keep your seatbelt fastened when seated, especially during meal service.
