Man Who Bet He Could Walk Around the World Is Still Trekking 27 Years Later
In 1998, Karl Bushby made a bar bet to walk from the southern tip of South America back to England — no rides, no shortcuts.
What he thought would take 12 years has now become a 27-year epic journey. He’s walked over 31,000 miles across 25 countries, survived the Darién Gap, crossed the frozen Bering Strait, and even swam across the Caspian Sea.
Now 56 years old, he’s in Hungary and on track to finally finish in September 2026.
