Protecting the Next Generation – Why Kekoa Acted
When 23-year-old lifeguard **Kekoa Tamale** saw a group attacking a 15-year-old boy at Waialee Beach that night, he didn’t stop to think about the danger.

He saw a young person — someone’s son, a student, an athlete with his whole future ahead of him — and he acted.
Kekoa ran straight in to shield the boy, putting himself in harm’s way so the teenager could get away. In that moment, he chose to protect the next generation, even at great personal cost.

Later, Kekoa shared:
“I wish I was able to jump in a lot sooner… He still suffered a lot of injuries.”
His quick decision to step up likely saved the boy from even worse harm.

This is the kind of courage that reminds us what it truly means to look out for one another — especially our young people.
Mahalo Kekoa, for choosing to protect a child when it mattered most
