The names of the 10-year-old twin brothers who were killed in a suspected murder-suicide in Los Angeles have been released.

According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, the victims were Greysen Chavez and Joseph Chavez. The boys’ father, a 37-year-old man whose identity has not yet been publicly confirmed, is believed to have shot his sons before turning the gun on himself.

The tragedy occurred on Sunday evening, June 7, 2026, at an apartment in the 8000 block of Owensmouth Avenue in the Canoga Park neighborhood of the San Fernando Valley. Los Angeles Police Department officers responded to reports of a shooting around 7:15 p.m. and discovered the three bodies inside a bedroom, all suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. A handgun was recovered at the scene.

LAPD Captain Mike Bland stated: “Preliminary investigation indicates that this is a case of murder/suicide.” The department’s Robbery-Homicide Division is leading the investigation.

Neighbors and relatives gathered at the scene, visibly distraught. One woman, speaking to ABC7, expressed her sorrow: “That’s just really sad. Two little kids and a dad. That’s a family. Nobody deserves that.” She added that the community wanted to offer prayers for the family’s healing.

Another local resident, CC Pelkey, told KTLA: “My heart is breaking for this family because this is tragic. This should never happen to anybody. The kids never had a chance to have a life… It’s just, there are no words right now.”

Photos from the scene showed tributes left outside the apartment and grieving family members being comforted by others. Reports suggest the incident may have taken place during a family gathering, though police have not officially confirmed this detail.
