11-Year-Old North Carolina Boy Fights Off Burglars with Machete, Helps Police Catch One Suspect

NORTH CAROLINA — An 11-year-old boy is being hailed as a hero after bravely defending his family’s home against three alleged intruders while he was home alone.
Braydon Smith grabbed a machete and confronted the would-be burglars when they attempted to break into the house. During the confrontation, Braydon struck one of the suspects, 19-year-old Jataveon Dashawn Hall, who was later arrested and treated for his injuries.
According to authorities, the other two suspects fled the scene as soon as Braydon began defending himself and the property. Deputies are actively searching for the remaining individuals.
Speaking to reporters, Braydon remained remarkably calm about the ordeal. He said he wasn’t sure what would happen but never felt afraid. “I’ll feel more at ease once the other suspects are caught,” he added, “but if necessary, I’m ready to defend my home again.”
The young boy also had a direct message for the suspects: “You shouldn’t have done what you’ve done. You’re better off to get a job than breaking into other people’s houses.”
Authorities have praised Braydon’s courage and quick thinking in a situation that could have turned far more dangerous. His actions not only protected his home but also helped law enforcement apprehend one of the suspects.
The investigation remains ongoing as police work to locate the other two individuals involved.
