San Antonio Murder-Suicide: Estranged Husband Kills Wife Before Standoff with Police, Officer Shot While Protecting Children

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — A heartbreaking domestic tragedy unfolded Friday when Albert Nixon Richter, the estranged husband of Brianna Nicole Richter, allegedly forced his way into the family home, killed his wife, and engaged in a standoff with police that left an officer wounded.
Richter is accused of breaking through a glass door while armed with a handgun. He entered the residence, fatally shot Brianna, and barricaded himself inside a room. Officers responded to reports of a disturbance involving a firearm around 1 p.m.
A next-door neighbor described hearing a barrage of gunfire during the incident. An officer was shot in the stomach while heroically shielding the couple’s two young children in a “bear hug” as he escorted them to safety. The officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is recovering.
Photos from the scene show heavily armed SWAT officers and tactical vehicles from the San Antonio Police Department responding to the standoff. Family images show Brianna with her children and Albert, highlighting the personal tragedy behind the violence.
The children were safely removed from the home thanks to the quick actions of responding officers. Richter is believed to have died by suicide during the confrontation.
This devastating case has shocked the local community and renewed conversations about domestic violence and the dangers faced by law enforcement officers responding to high-risk situations.
The surviving officer’s bravery in protecting the children while injured has been widely praised. The two young children are now safe but will undoubtedly face a difficult road ahead following the loss of their mother.
Authorities continue to investigate the full circumstances of the incident. Our thoughts are with the Richter children, Brianna’s loved ones, and the injured officer as they navigate this immense loss.
