Hoarder Parents Sentenced to 1-4 Years in Prison After 3-Year-Old Daughter Dies in ‘Horrific’ Conditions

CORINTH, New York — A couple has been sentenced to prison after their 3-year-old daughter died from severe neglect in deplorable hoarding conditions.

Samantha E. Dylewski and Matthew J. Dylewski each pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide in the death of their daughter, Joycelynn Ann Dylewski.

The Tragic Details

Joycelynn died on February 19, 2025. Authorities described a “horrific” environment in the family’s apartment, filled with trash, filth, and extreme hoarding. The young girl suffered from a massive lice infestation that led to anemia and organ damage.

The couple was sentenced as follows:

  • Samantha on June 8, 2026
  • Matthew on June 22, 2026

Each received 1⅓ to 4 years in state prison. The family had five children, all affected by the conditions.

This case has shocked the community and highlighted failures in recognizing and intervening in severe child neglect and hoarding situations.

Our deepest condolences go out to anyone affected by this tragedy. Child protective services and authorities are likely reviewing the case to ensure the safety of the surviving children.
