World Cup Worker, 22, Killed After Being Hit by Suspected Drunk Driver While Walking Home From Match**
A 22-year-old worker involved in World Cup-related operations has died after being struck by a vehicle while walking home from a match, in an incident police say is believed to involve a suspected drunk driver.

Aaron Avery lost his life when a suspected drunk-driver struck him at speed following just his second shift on duty. The 22-year-old was rushed to hospital in critical condition with multiple injuries, including severe brain trauma, and despite doctors’ best efforts, was pronounced dead.

The young man had been volunteering with the security team at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, California, for the Iran v New Zealand fixture on June 15. The collision occurred at around 10.30pm local time as Aaron was walking home from the venue.

The family has been left devastated by the sudden death of their “caring and dedicated son”, and has shared photographs of the man with reporters.

Aaron’s family, from Los Angeles, has now launched a GoFundMe page in his memory to raise funds for end-of-life costs, medical expenses, and funeral arrangements. The fundraising appeal, which has a goal of $20,000, has raised more than $11,000 already.

“Tragically, he was struck by a driver under the influence who was speeding, leaving Aaron in critical condition with multiple injuries. The most serious injury was trauma to his brain, and he was placed on life support while doctors conducted further examinations.”

Ms Hill added: “The next day, Aaron was pronounced to have transitioned, leaving his family and friends devastated by the sudden loss. Aaron was a caring and dedicated son who loved helping his community. His involvement with the World Cup was a source of pride for him and his family.
