A Florida mother is facing charges after she allegedly chained her 13-year-old daughter to a fence in intense heat because she “wanted a break” from parenting, according to police in Hialeah.

Yashira Marie Maldonado, 34, reportedly wrapped a metal chain around the teen’s waist outside her great-grandmother’s home on Saturday. She then left the girl restrained without food, water, or shade while she went home to watch television in bed.

The disturbing incident left the 13-year-old exposed to the scorching sun for an extended period, according to the police report. Neighbors or family members eventually alerted authorities, leading to Maldonado’s arrest.

This case has sparked widespread outrage, highlighting concerns over child endangerment and the responsibilities of parents. Maldonado faces multiple charges related to child abuse and neglect.
