Authorities say 34-year-old Destiny was spending the weekend at her mother’s home in Virginia with her 3-year-old daughter when tragedy struck.
According to her family, Destiny poured gasoline on herself and set herself on fire.
As loved ones desperately tried to save her, rushing her toward a shower to put out the flames, the fire spread through the house in seconds.
In another room was her 3-year-old daughter.
The flames became so intense that no one could reach her.
The little girl died at the scene.
Destiny was rushed to the hospital with devastating burns but later died from her injuries.
Her mother said Destiny had been battling mental illness while caring for her daughter, who had autism, cerebral palsy, and a condition that caused self-injurious behaviors. She said the weight of caregiving had become overwhelming.
Now, one family is planning two funerals instead of watching a mother and daughter grow old together.
