Lancaster, California — A 28-year-old mother, Rayzhanna Greenhoward, has been charged with murder, assault on a child causing death, and child abuse resulting in death after her 2-year-old son, Legend Lee, died from severe burns in November 2025. Prosecutors allege she used scalding hot water to cause the injuries.

The toddler had been in foster care for the first nine months of his life before being returned to his biological mother. He died after suffering the burns, prompting an eight-month investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Greenhoward was arrested on July 9 and booked into the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood on $2 million bond.

Legend’s foster mother, Yolanda Ramsey, expressed profound heartbreak, describing the boy as full of love and noting his distinctive “bottom lip.” Ramsey had picked him up from the hospital shortly after birth and provided care during his early months. She suggested possible failures by the California Department of Child and Family Services in the case.
