McCormick County Teen Charged with Murder of 13-Year-Old After Body Recovered from Lake

A 17-year-old from McCormick County, South Carolina, has been charged with murder in connection with the death of a 13-year-old boy whose body was recovered from Clarks Hill Lake.

According to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), Landen Austin Moore is accused of holding the victim, Daryl Lowry, underwater on July 20, causing him to drown. Moore, who is described as 6 feet 2 inches tall, was booked into the McCormick County Detention Center.

A warrant affidavit further alleges that a physical altercation involving Moore, another unnamed 16-year-old, and the victim resulted in Lowry suffering lacerations from a knife.

Investigation Details
The 16-year-old also allegedly involved in the incident was transported to the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice. The case will be prosecuted by the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office.

SLED continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death. The body was recovered near a dock in the Modoc area of Clarks Hill Lake.
