New details have emerged following the tragic death of 18-year-old actress Kaylee Hottle, best known for playing Jia in Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Hottle died after a single-vehicle crash in Ijamsville, Maryland, on July 21, 2026.

Investigators determined that the 1995 Honda Accord carrying Kaylee and two others left the right side of Windsor Road and struck a roadside culvert at around 2:52 a.m. Authorities said excessive speed was believed to have contributed to the crash. The 19-year-old driver survived with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, while the other passenger declined treatment.

A subsequent medical examination provided another important piece of information. The Maryland medical examiner determined that Kaylee died from multiple blunt-force injuries and ruled the death an accident. Investigators also ruled out alcohol impairment for the driver, while testing for possible drugs was still pending at the time of the latest report.

Dispatch audio from the crash has also been obtained and examined, adding another piece to the reconstruction of the events that unfolded that morning. Authorities have continued reviewing the circumstances surrounding the collision, including whether any criminal charges against the driver will ultimately be appropriate.

Kaylee’s death has prompted an outpouring of grief from her family, school and colleagues. Her father, Joshua Hottle, announced her death through an American Sign Language video. Tributes also came from members of the Godzilla cast and the wider Deaf community.

Kaylee had become a notable young performer after portraying Jia, the deaf child who forms a special connection with Kong. Her performance in the Godzilla franchise helped bring greater visibility to Deaf representation in mainstream film.

The latest evidence does not indicate that Kaylee’s death was intentional. The medical examiner has classified it as accidental, while authorities continue to review the crash investigation. The most significant confirmed update is that investigators have ruled out alcohol impairment by the driver, but questions surrounding speed and the complete circumstances of the collision remain part of the investigation.
