Holding On for Mason

Mason was once just a regular kid — active, full of energy, the kind of boy who filled a house with noise and movement. Then the signs began to appear. Fatigue that wouldn’t lift. Fevers that kept coming back. Vomiting. Painful sores in his mouth that made even the simplest things hard.
What followed was the kind of news no family ever wants to hear: Acute Myeloid Leukemia. A rare and aggressive form of blood cancer that steals childhood in an instant.
Mason faced chemotherapy. He went through a bone marrow transplant. And for a while, there was light — he reached remission. The family could breathe again. They allowed themselves to hope that the worst was behind them.
But cancer doesn’t always play fair. Months later, the leukemia returned. Another hard chapter opened. Another round of fear, hospitals, and uncertainty settled over their lives.

Now Mason is at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, receiving treatment through a clinical trial. It is a place of advanced medicine and determined doctors, but more than that, it is a place where his family continues to hold on — tightly, fiercely — to the possibility of better days.
There is no easy way to watch a child fight this hard. No words that can fully capture the weight of watching hope rise and fall and rise again. Yet through every setback, Mason’s loved ones keep showing up. They keep believing. They keep choosing hope even when the road feels endless.
Mason’s story is still being written. The fight is not over. But neither is the love that surrounds him, the strength he continues to show, or the quiet, stubborn hope that refuses to let go.
For Mason, and for every family walking this path — may better days come. And may they come soon.
