During a routine 20-week pregnancy scan, Liam’s parents received unexpected news about their baby’s health.
Doctors diagnosed Liam with two rare congenital conditions: omphalocele and left-sided congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH).
According to his family, these conditions affected the position of some of his organs and limited the space available for his lungs and heart to develop before birth.
After Liam was born earlier than expected, he was placed on ECMO shortly after birth and underwent a complex surgery the following day as his medical team worked to give him the best possible care.

His family continues to remain hopeful as Liam progresses through his recovery one step at a time.
