An 8-year-old girl is slowly dying from brain cancer, and her mom is asking people to hear her story before she has to face the goodbye she cannot imagine.
But Sabrena Beard also wants other parents to hear the warning buried inside their heartbreak.
It started with headaches.
On January 1st, Sabrena says her then-7-year-old daughter began suffering from headaches that wouldn’t go away.
They went to doctors looking for answers. Medications didn’t help.
Sabrena kept pushing.
Eventually, a hospital performed a scan and discovered a brain tumor.
Just seven days later, her little girl underwent brain surgery.
It was the day before her 8th birthday.
Days later, Sabrena says another procedure was needed to drain fluid, and eventually came the diagnosis no mother wants to hear: cancer.
They went to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis and spent months away from home while her daughter endured radiation and treatment.
There was even a moment that felt like victory.
On April 1st, her little girl rang the bell.

They finally went home after spending about five months away.
In May, Sabrena says they were told the tumor was shrinking.
Imagine the hope that must have given this mother.
Then everything changed.
Sabrena says her daughter’s condition deteriorated rapidly in July. When they returned for evaluation, they learned the cancer had spread.
Her 8-year-old daughter has Stage 4 diffuse midline glioma, or DMG.
She is now on hospice.
“This pain is unbearable,” Sabrena told me.
Sabrena has stopped working so she can stay home and care for her daughter through whatever time they have left together.
And as painful as it is to share this, she wants another parent to learn something from what happened to them.
A headache in a child will usually be just a headache. But when symptoms persist, change or don’t respond as expected, don’t be afraid to keep asking questions and seeking answers.
You know when something isn’t right with your child.
Sabrena kept searching until someone finally looked deeper.
Now this mom is doing the only thing she can do when medicine can no longer give her the outcome she desperately wants.
She’s staying beside her baby.
Loving her.
Caring for her.
And asking people to pray.
Please surround this little girl and her mom with prayer right now. Pray for comfort and freedom from pain for this precious 8-year-old. Pray for strength for Sabrena as she does something no mother should ever have to do.
