Doctors never believed Lucas would make it out of the hospital.
Later this month, this brave little boy will celebrate his fourth birthday—a milestone that once seemed impossible.
Lucas was born with epidermolysis bullosa, a very rare genetic condition often called Butterfly Disease. From the very beginning, he has faced challenges that most of us can’t imagine, yet he has spent nearly four years proving just how strong and determined he is.
His family says Lucas has the biggest personality. Even though he’s nonverbal, there’s never any doubt about what he wants. He lights up around other children, adores his dog Blue, loves Goofy and Moana, and always shows off his amazing sense of style.
Just before Father’s Day, Lucas faced another heartbreaking setback. After a nap, he was found unresponsive. Thanks to the quick actions of first responders, he was airlifted to the hospital, where he continues his fight.
Lucas remains in a coma, but his family is holding tightly to hope. Before this happened, he was learning sign language and using a communication board to share his thoughts and feelings with those around him.
His grandfather says Lucas teaches their family something new every single day. His courage, joyful spirit, and incredible determination continue to inspire everyone who knows his story.
