After Nearly 13 Years of Seizures, Ella Is Still Fighting
This sweet girl has spent nearly her entire childhood fighting epilepsy.
Ella was just 7 months old when she was diagnosed with intractable epilepsy—a form of epilepsy that does not respond adequately to medication.
While other children were learning to walk, play, and explore, Ella’s childhood was filled with seizures, hospital visits, EEGs, MRIs, and countless medications.
In 2021, doctors performed major brain surgery, removing much of her left frontal lobe in the hope of stopping the seizures.
And for 18 months, it worked.
Ella became seizure-free. Her family finally began to experience the childhood they had hoped she could have.
Then, in 2023, the seizures returned.
Her mother says they came back with a vengeance.
In 2025, Ella underwent another major procedure, this time receiving a deep brain stimulator designed to help control the abnormal electrical activity associated with her seizures.
But the seizures have continued.
Nearly 13 years of fighting.
Countless treatments.
Two major brain procedures.
And still, Ella keeps going.
Yet her mother says epilepsy hasn’t taken away everything.
Ella still smiles.
She still laughs.
She still loves.
She still finds reasons to be happy.
Her mom, Kristin, says Ella’s story is about more than epilepsy.
“It’s about perseverance. It’s about hope.”
