SHEFFIELD, ENGLAND — Four Slovakian nationals are due to stand trial over the alleged murder of a newborn baby girl in Sheffield after prosecutors told the court that the infant suffered 33 wounds in 15 separate stabbings.

The baby, referred to in court only as Baby S, was found dead at a property in Holywell Heights, Wincobank, on Sunday, August 30, 2026.

Four adults — Andrea Skopova, 20; Peter Horvath Jr., 19; Peter Horvath Sr., 38; and Nina Horvathova, 37 — have been charged with murder. They also face allegations of causing or allowing the death of a child and attempting to obstruct justice by concealing what happened.

A 15-year-old girl has separately been charged with perverting the course of justice. Because she is under 18, her identity is protected by law.

Baby S Was Found at a Sheffield Property
Emergency services were called to the Holywell Heights property in the early hours of August 30 after concerns were raised about a newborn baby.

The infant was found in an outhouse at the property, with prosecutors later telling Sheffield Magistrates’ Court that her body had been placed on top of a washing machine.

A post-mortem examination found that the baby had died from stab wounds. Prosecutors said she had suffered 33 injuries from 15 separate attacks.

The discovery immediately led South Yorkshire Police to open a murder investigation.

Four Adults Were Charged
Police subsequently charged four adults.

Andrea Skopova, 20, is accused of murdering the newborn.

Peter Horvath Jr., 19, Peter Horvath Sr., 38, and Nina Horvathova, 37, were also charged with murder.

All four are Slovakian nationals.

In addition to murder, prosecutors have accused the defendants of causing or allowing the death of a child and taking steps to conceal the alleged killing.

The charges are allegations only. None of the defendants has been convicted.

A Teenager Is Also Facing a Charge
A 15-year-old girl appeared in court alongside the four adults.

She has been charged with perverting the course of justice.

Because of her age, she cannot legally be identified in the British media.

She was remanded into youth custody while the criminal proceedings continue.

Authorities have not publicly disclosed the full nature of the allegations against the teenager.

Prosecutors Say the Investigation Is Complex
At an earlier hearing, prosecutors described the case as involving efforts to conceal what had happened to the baby.

Police have also recovered evidence as part of the investigation, while detectives continue examining the circumstances surrounding the infant’s birth and death.

South Yorkshire Police Detective Chief Inspector Tom Woodward has urged members of the public not to speculate about the case online.

He said the investigation remains complex and asked anyone with relevant information to contact detectives.

That warning is particularly important because the criminal proceedings are now active and all five defendants have the right to a fair trial.

The Case Reached Sheffield Crown Court
The four adults appeared at Sheffield Crown Court on September 3, 2026, one day after their initial appearance at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court.

Court officials heard the charges against them before Judge Sarah Wright.

The defendants were remanded in custody pending their next hearing, currently scheduled for October 2, 2026.

A trial has now been scheduled for April 12, 2027.

The hearing is expected to last approximately six to seven weeks, reflecting the seriousness and complexity of the case.

Two Other Women Remain on Bail
The investigation has not ended with the five people currently facing charges.

South Yorkshire Police confirmed that two other women, aged 26 and 37, were arrested on suspicion of murder but remain on bail while inquiries continue.

Their arrests do not mean they will necessarily face charges.

Investigators are continuing to assess the evidence before deciding what further action, if any, should be taken.

The Community Has Left Tributes
Flowers and other tributes have appeared near the property where the newborn was found.

The case has deeply affected residents in the Wincobank area, particularly because the victim was a newborn and because several people are now facing extremely serious criminal allegations.

Police have thanked members of the community for their cooperation while also asking people to avoid speculation that could interfere with the legal proceedings.

The Allegations Have Not Been Tested at Trial
Although prosecutors have described disturbing evidence in court, the current proceedings are still at an early stage.

The four adults charged with murder have not been convicted.

The 15-year-old facing a separate charge has also not been convicted.

Under UK law, each defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

The trial in 2027 will be the stage at which prosecutors must present evidence and the defence can challenge the allegations.
